Following two singles from the album, Decker battled with label executives for greater control of her music. her subsequent single Boys in the Summer was an album that was more country-oriented. The album that Decker released in the form of Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was canceled because Mercury noticed the weak performance of three of Decker's singles on country radio charts.
